Glasgow Airport Terminal
Glasgow Airport consists of one main terminal building referred to as Terminal 1, and a satellite extension area referred to as T2. These two buildings are linked by a walkway. The airport serves many airline companies, and is a base for BMI Regional, EasyJet, Flybe, and Thomson Airways. Check-in for the low cost airlines of Aer Lingus, Canadian Affair and Virgin flights are handled in T2. The check-in desks at the airport are numbered as 1-39 in the main terminal building, and 40-64 in the satellite terminal. In the main terminal building, all the check-in counters are found in the center of the concourse, with Domestic Arrivals and International Arrivals on either side. Domestic and International Departures are found on the first floor of the main terminal.
There are many future plans to extend Glasgow Airport over the next few years, enabling it to easily handle the projected 24 million passengers who will be using the airport’s services each year by 2030. Proposals have been made for the construction of a second runway parallel and to the north-west of the existing runway, enlargements of the East (Low-cost) pier and an additional pier to the west of the current International Pier. There were also plans to build a new rail terminal and rail line to Glasgow Central Station, but due to escalating costs, these plans have been cancelled.
Glasgow Airport’s terminal building handles all domestic and international arrivals and departures, although check-in services for the low-cost airlines of EasyJet and MyTravel are handled from T2, the satellite extension of the main terminal building. T2 is connected to the main terminal by a walkway. International and domestic departures are managed from the first floor of Terminal 1, while International Arrivals are found to the left of the central check-in areas, and Domestic Arrivals is located to the right of this area. Glasgow Airport is well-equipped for their passengers, with cash machines, currency exchange services, internet access, left baggage facilities, lost property offices, various family facilities, as well as high quality business services. Families traveling at the airport can enjoy baby changing facilities, play areas on the international pier and puzzle tables, Lego equipment and Flingabox interactive screens at several locations around the terminal. The skylounge Holiday Wing also welcomes children of all ages. Business facilities at Glasgow Airport include the dedicated Business Wing at skylounge, an up-market private lounge offering modern communication facilities, complimentary drinks and snacks, and a relaxing environment. There is also the Glasgow Airport Business Center located adjacent to the terminal building, with conference and meeting rooms for hire. Additional conference facilities are available at the nearby Travel Inn, able to accommodate up to 35 people.
Glasgow International Airport is fully accessible to disabled passengers and people with reduced mobility, offering them all the services they will need in order to comfortably manage their arrival or departure flight. Further information at the airport is available from the Information Point on the first floor, accommodation and places of interest details are provided by the Scotland tourist information desk in the international arrivals concourse, and public transport information is available from the Strathclyde Passenger Transport desk on the ground floor in UK arrivals.
